Erosion Control Project

This cliff face was eroding at a fast pace and threatened to cause serious damage to the property above.
The solution was a combination of a rockfall protection mesh, a gabion basket wall built on a solid concrete base, and a boulder revetment.
The concrete base for the gabion wall had to be poured by hand and at low tide while the waves were not crashing against the cliff.
This backhoe that we used to place the boulders had to be brought into the bay on a barge and landed on the beach from sea, as there were no roads to get to the work area.
To complete the project we introduced vegetation into the gabion wall to kick-start the process of greening.
